Summaries by Eloquent Audience Members:

  • "A tender, funny, coming of age tale set against the backdrop of the mythical old west. Luca's charm and original songs keep us entranced through this quest for respect via vulnerability not typically found in the rugged, testostorone laden domain of cis/het American masculinity. Refreshingly subversive without being abrasive."

  • "I LOVED this show! It is sweet, silly, funny, warm, cautionary tale (of sorts). Luca has a lovely singing voice, and the show is peppered with funny songs. And...I LOVE...Buttercup?...the horse...YEIGH!"

Elizabeth D (The horse’s name is Buttermilk but we did not edit Elizabeth’s words to preserve authenticity. Buttermilk, however, is upset.)

  • "A delightful one act play, singing through the big themes in life of right and wrong. Of love and friendship. Of parents and children. All of it packed into a funny, inventive, recursive story that is Oh-So clever."

    Anil Nair

A slightly LONGER SUMMARY FROM THE ARTIST

“Best of Fringe'' Award Winner at San Fran’s Exit Fringe, “Howdy, Stranger” is a one person musical comedy which uses the power of tequila, puppetry and dangerously catchy show tunes to answer the question: How far will a person go for love and respect? We follow a queer lawman named Jean who strives to become the new county deputy, despite being a fool and insufferable theatre kid. When an outlaw steals his only friend (Oscar Nominated Buttermilk the Horse), Jean embarks on a rivetin’ romp through the West to face gunslingin’ outlaws and disturbingly handsome criminals with nothin’ but a smile and a song (while trying not to get shot and killed to death). “Howdy, Stranger” is full of laughs, tears, and shockingly deep themes (We are not liable for any Daddy Issues that may or may not surface).

Written, performed and glitter glued together by Luca Torrens, this show is for those struggling to find their place in the world but especially to queer youth to whom acceptance is everything
